Packing 101
Welcome to our new blog! Here we will cover packing 101. The goal here is to cover strictly the essentials, and keep it short and sweet but, sometimes I get distracted and might ramble. Lets hope not.
For a short trip, the key is to pack efficiently while covering all essentials. Here’s a packing list tailored for just such an occasion:
TRIP DURATION: 0-72 HOURS
LUGGAGE SIZE: A backpack or duffle bag, approximately 24L size
Clothing
- Underwear and Socks: Enough for the trip duration, typically 2-3 pairs. Pretty self explanatory.
- 1-2 Outfits: not including what you're wearing while you're actually traveling. Also these outfits should be pieces of clothing that can be mixed and matched. Include one dressy outfit if needed, a sweater might be helpful too.
- 1 pair of comfortable shoes/sneakers: for walking or any activities you have planned.
- 1 set of sleep clothing aka pajamas: Lightweight and comfortable.
Toiletries
- ***Travel-sized****
- Shampoo and Conditioner
- Body Wash or Soap
- Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Floss, mouthwash
- Deodorant
- Hairbrush or Comb: Compact and essential.
- Personal Hygiene Items: Feminine hygiene products, perfume/cologne, Chapstick (definitely)
- Hand Sanitizer: Travel-sized for quick hand cleaning.
Electronics
- Phone AND Charger: Essential for communication and navigation.
- Portable Charger/Power Bank: To keep your phone and other small devices charged.
- Headphones: For entertainment purposes, or to drown out other travelers to catch some Zs.
Health and Safety
- Medications: Any necessary prescription or over-the-counter medications in their original containers. Just a few suggestions: Aspirin, Dramamine, Excedrin, Ibuprofen, Pepto-Bismol
Travel Essentials
- Identification and Travel Documents: Passport, Identification and any reservation confirmations
- Wallet: With cash and credit/debit cards, (pro-tip, carry some extra cash hidden away just in case)
- Reusable Water Bottle: Hydro flasks are my personal favorites but any water bottle will do.
Comfort Items
- Travel Pillow: Ifyou’re traveling by plane or long car rides.
- Sleep Mask and/or Earplugs: For better sleep if you’re staying in a new environment. Noise cancelling headphones will also do just fine.
- Slippers (Optional) so you don't have to walk on questionable floors
Miscellaneous
- Small Laundry Bag: For dirty clothes.
- Compact Umbrella: (Optional) If there’s a chance of rain.
- Lightweight Tote Bag: For extra storage or day trips, so that you're not dragging around all of your stuff.
Optional Items
- Tablet: For entertainment, photos, keeping children entertained or to keep up with work if you work remotely.
- Book or Travel Journal: If you like jotting down your experiences.
This streamlined packing list ensures you’re well-prepared without overpacking, making your short trip smooth and enjoyable. Obviously this is not an end all be all list. There is more than one way to do things but, this list will get the job done if you find that you're one of those people that pack too much or too little.
